United States & California Express Co. – Aug, 1850 to Aug 1851

The United States & California Express Company, which also operated under the name “A. B. Miller & Co.’s California Express” and similar variants, operated from Aug, 1850 through Aug, 1851. Abram B. Miller was “the” Miller of the company during their time as an express. They charged 12½¢ for carriage of a letter from the east coast (offices in New York, Boston and Philadelphia) to the west coast (San Francisco). They also had offices in Panama and acting as forwarding agents across the isthmus.
