Howard was an honorary life member of Western Cover Society holding membership number 221. This is an honor that Western Cover Society has bestowed on only 17 members of the Society in its fifty-seven year history.
Howard was born, raised and died on his family farm in the Waldo Hills area outside of Salem, Oregon. His family settled on this land in 1848. When asked, He would reply that he was a grass seed farmer by trade but he was always a collector of Western Material by heart.

MARC HAAS
Died: July 9, 1990
Mr. Haas was an ardent collector, especially of stamps, and his greatest fame in that field came when he sold his stamp collection for $11 million to a London dealer. The collection, described by the stamp firm as being probably the finest collection of early U.S. covers in private hands, was put together over 30 years.
The collection was sold in 1979.
”I feel like I’ve lost my children,” Mr. Haas said at the time of the sale to a British company, Stanley Gibbons International of London.
